Rancho Penasquitos is a family-oriented bedroom community located on the west side of I-15 and bordered by Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve to the south. The community provides a stunning natural environment along with the service and cultural advantages of a big city and the relaxation and quiet of a small residential neighborhood. Growth is rapid and many new homes provide spectacular views of undeveloped countryside.

A number of neighborhood parks and seasonal festivals allow residents to enjoy their town’s spectacular beauty and mild climate year-round. The annual Spring Festival and the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta de los Penasquitos attract thousands of people each year. Rancho Penasquitos also hosts many annual golf tournaments, as well as the Miss Rancho Penasquitos Pageant. The Pacific Ocean is nearby, though the only way to reach it is by dirt road. A wide variety of sport organizations are available, from soccer and football to tennis and volleyball.

The recorded history of Rancho Penasquitos dates back to1823. The Commandante of the San Diego Presidio constructed an adobe ranch house within first Mexican land grant in what is now San Diego County. In 1862, the home was enlarged to accommodate its new residents, a celebrated Yankee riverboat captain named Francisco María Ruíz and his wife. The now-restored building still stands and is part of a National Historic and Archaeological District in Los Penasquitos Canyon. This beautiful canyon is included in a 3700-acre open space preserve that offers residents numerous recreational opportunities, including hiking, biking and equestrian trails.
